VALS provides free legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people all
across Victoria.

VALS can provide legal information, legal advice or legal representation. The type of assistance VALS can provide each client is dependent on the client’s circumstances and the details of the issue. Each matter is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Our areas of practice include Balit Ngulu, our specialised youth practice, Criminal Law Practice, Civil and Human Rights Practice, Aboriginal Families Practice as well as Wirraway, our Police and Prison Accountability Practice. You don’t need to match one of these problems exactly. If something doesn’t feel safe, fair or clear in your relationship, family or home, you can still apply for legal help.

Secondary ConsultationsYou can refer your client to us or request a secondary consultation to get legal information on how to help your client. In both cases your client needs to have a problem that we can help with (problems we help with), have low or no income, face barriers to justice and do not have a lawyer already.
