How to Report Family Violence to PoliceTo report family violence to police:

Victoria Police investigate all reports of family violence.

You can make a report if you are experiencing family violence yourself, concerned about someone you know, or if you work for a support service.

You can contact police at any time to talk about family violence – even if it happened a long time ago and you have not told anyone about it before.

National Domestic Violence Order SchemeVictim-survivors of family violence are protected anywhere in Australia, no matter which state or territory court issued their domestic or family violence order.

Local police will enforce all domestic and family violence intervention orders issued after 25 November 2017.

Courts across Australia can also extend, vary and revoke any nationally recognised domestic and family violence intervention orders.

Report a family violence intervention order or safety notice breach:

  • It is a criminal offence to disobey a family violence intervention order or safety notice.If there is a breach of a family violence intervention order or safety notice:
    • in an emergency or life-threatening situation, call Triple Zero (000)
    • if there is no immediate danger or you do not need an urgent police response, contact your local police station during their opening hours.
    • Police will need to ask you more questions about what happened and may ask you to make a formal statement.
  • Apply for a family violence intervention order through Magistrates’ Court of Victoria here
  • Apply for a variation to an existing family violence intervention order here
  • Get advice if you need protection in another state (for example, if you live near the border) here

Ambulance Victoria
Compassionate exemptions for Ambulance FeesAmbulance Victoria will offer a compassionate exemption to patients where the case record indicates that the patient:

  • Required an ambulance following a sexual assault, domestic violence, or child abuse.

  • Please state which scheme you are requesting under and include name/ contact and detail of requesting agency on email.
  • Be clear on what information is being requested.  Name/DOB/Address and date of incident is helpful.
