Balancing the Scales: Women leading change through culture, place and community
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day on Sunday 8 March is ‘balancing the scales’.
This theme highlights the urgent need for fair, inclusive and accessible justice for every woman and girl.
Despite decades of progress, barriers to justice remain deeply entrenched. One in three women worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime – yet most will never receive formal help or justice.
‘Balance the scales’ is a collective call to ensure every woman and girl is safe, heard, and free to shape her own future.
Join us for an evening of inspiring speakers, a panel discussion, nibbles and networking.
Speakers:
Leila Gurruwiwi: Yolngu woman of the Galpu Clan from Northeast Arnhem land, Australian media commentator and television show producer
Rabbi Allison Conyer: Distinguished and globally recognised rabbi with extensive experience in Jewish education, interfaith dialogue, social action
Professor Nicole Kalms: Associate Dean (Research), Professor in the Department of Design, and founding director of the Monash University XYX Lab which leads national and international research in Gender and Place.
