Introduction to Sex Worker Affirming Practice
Join RhED’s Health Educators online for an introduction to sex worker affirming practice!
These sessions are aimed at those working in a range of community and social services, as well as those working in private practice, who are looking to develop a greater understanding of the strengths of, and challenges facing, the sex work community. This training also encompasses how individuals and services can reform and/or enhance their practice to create a sex worker inclusive and affirming space and proactively contribute towards challenging sex worker stigma and discrimination with greater confidence.
This session will cover:
· Who is RhED?
· What is sex work, who does it, and why?
· The consequences of conflating sex trafficking with sex work.
· Victorian sex work legislation and the impact of legislation on sex workers.
· Sex work stigma and discrimination.
· Engaging in sex worker affirming & non-stigmatising practice.
Our Introduction to Sex Worker Affirming Practice sessions include interactive elements, and have time for discussion and questions.
After attending this session you will have a deeper understanding of sex work stigma and its impact on the sex work community, as well as some ideas and practice approaches you can implement in your work to create a safer and more inclusive service for sex workers.
