Engaging with Parents, Carers & Families of LGBTIQA+ Young people
The Family Reconciliation Mediation Program (FRMP), in partnership with Drummond Street Services and the Centre for Family Research & Evaluation (CFRE) is offering specialist training to build staff capacity in supporting LGBTIQA+ young people and their families. Beginning with a 101 e-learning module on inclusive language, pronouns, unconscious bias, and safe environments, the program prepares participants for a 2-hour in-person or online workshop delivered by trainers with professional and lived experience.
The training equips staff to support LGBTIQA+ youth, navigate disclosure and confidentiality, and engage families, while also providing strategies, referral pathways, and resources. Grounded in Queerspace’s evidence-based and intersectional practice model, it centres lived experience and LGBTIQA+ voices, helping staff improve outcomes for young people and foster more inclusive and supportive environments across the sector.
