SUMMARY:Training: Messaging the movement - Communicating Solidarity | Intertwine
DESCRIPTION:As social change activists and change agents\, we are committed to a world in which everyone can thrive\, a world of equality\, gender equity\, racial justice\, freedom of sexual orientation and gender identity\, disability inclusion and more. \nNow\, more than ever\, in this time of uncertainty and unrest\, we are aware that there are many who are not yet convinced this world is possible\, people who have not yet made up their minds. \nThis intersectional messaging training draws on decades of social psychology to connect the dots between the evidence you already know and the language and messaging structure you need to create powerful\, transformative and persuasive communications. \nLed by longtime communications strategist Ro Bersten\, the training will cover the theory and implications of values research\, the concept of framing\, understanding your organisation’s values and frames\, understanding your opponent’s values and frames\, and then explore practical applications of the vision-barrier-action message structure for your organisation’s intersectional social justice communications. The workshop brings together the Common Cause messaging framework\, the latest research from messaging experts in Australia\, the US\, the UK and Aotearoa\, and then offers an opportunity to workshop your own messages with the group. \nSuitable for all communications\, marketing\, campaigns and policy staff. \nRegister here

We go through the key intersectional principles and enablers for intersectional action so that you can create a scorecard for your workplace. \nThen\, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss next steps with others at the same stage. SUMMARY:Training: Beyond diversity and inclusion | Intertwine
DESCRIPTION:Our introductory training session is designed for people at all organisational levels with beginner to intermediate understanding of workplace diversity and inclusion. \nThis half-day workshop is designed to help you move beyond sensitivity training and diversity to justice and equity. Using a nuanced approach to privilege and marginalisation\, you’ll workshop intersections and effects and work on developing tailored structural solutions for your own organisation or campaigns. \nAt the end of the training\, you will understand the underlying drivers of societal and workplace discrimination and that creating the circumstances for gender equity\, cultural and racial justice\, freedom of sexuality and gender identity and a social model of disability will result in a society where everyone can thrive. You’ll explore how structural interventions by organisations can reduce these impacts and create a welcoming and inclusive workplace. Participants will work in small groups to identify strategies that apply to their own organisations and come away with practical ideas to implement change. Book your place today! \nWe will answer the following questions: \n\nWhat is privilege? How does it relate to power and resistance?\nWhat is the difference between ‘diversity and inclusion’ and ‘equity and justice’?\nHow can we remove barriers in our organisations to create a thriving\, collaborative culture?\nHow do social systems create stigma and discrimination and seep into our organisations\, our interpersonal relationships and our psyches?\nAre our organisations ‘walking the talk’?\n\nThis training session takes place on Zoom. Tickets are free for First Nations people and discounted tickets are available for low income or unhoused people — please enquire by emailing ro@intertwine.org.au. \nNOTE: Session will only run with a minimum of 10 people

SUMMARY:Unpacking Colonial Assumptions | Intertwine
DESCRIPTION:For this session\, we’re exploring colonial assumptions in not-for-profits\, for-purpose organisations and progressive movements. We welcome First Peoples from various lands along with migrants and settlers to come together\, reflect and listen. \nWe often hear people talking about working in decolonising ways — but what does that mean in practice? How does settler privilege and the assumptions of white Western business concepts shape how our organisations are structured and operate? How might we change that? \nThe session will be co-facilitated by grassroots activist and storyteller Jill Faulkner and intertwine co-founder Ro Bersten. Jill was born in Aotearoa\, and has lived on the lands of the First Nations peoples of Australia longer than she has lived on the country of her grandfather\, descendant of the Ngati Te Whiti hapu of the Ati Awa iwi. Ro is an immigrant settler descended from Eastern European Jewish refugees. \nWe look forward to connecting with you and creating new ways of working. \nRegister Here
