SUMMARY:Webinar: What is good research evidence and how do you find it? | AIFS
DESCRIPTION:Quality research evidence can improve service design and delivery\, and professionals in child and family services often need to use this to inform their work. This can include writing grant proposals\, developing program theories\, or preparing program evaluations. However\, people may not know how to find high-quality\, relevant research. \nThe Evidence and Evaluation Support (EES) team at the Australian Institute of Family Studies has put together a four-part webinar series to share examples of evaluative practice and ideas for collecting and using evidence in the context of Australian child and family services. \nIn episode 3\, Kat Goldsworthy\, Research Fellow in the Evidence and Evaluation Support team\, sits down with Dr Melissa Willoughby to discuss practical strategies for finding and using research evidence in a practice context. \nThis episode will discuss different types of research evidence and how to find and assess its quality; as well as insights into how research evidence can be used alongside other forms of evidence\, such as lived experience and practice expertise. \nThis webinar will give you: \n\nan understanding of what research evidence is and how it’s relevant to service design and delivery\ninsights into how to identify quality research evidence and make judgments about if it can be used to inform decision-making in practice\ninsights into how to find relevant research evidence.\n\nThe webinar is intended for anyone interested in understanding and using research evidence more effectively. It will be particularly useful for professionals involved in service design and delivery\, especially those who write grants and funding applications\, design new programs or refine existing ones\, and those who support or do program evaluations. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Campaign Launch—What Kind Of Man Do You Want To Be? | Respect Victoria
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Kino Cinema (Collins Place) for a special screening and Q&A of What Kind of Man Do You Want To Be?—a bold new campaign from Respect Victoria. \nWhat Kind of Man Do You Want To Be? invites Victorian men to challenge harmful forms of masculinity and reflect on what kind of man they want to be—for themselves\, their partners\, families and communities. Harmful gender stereotypes drive violence against women and other forms of gendered violence. This includes the pressure for men to be dominant\, in control and refrain from showing vulnerability. \nThis campaign profiles the stories of real Victorians navigating those pressures\, in everything from fatherhood to online gaming. With a focus on listening rather than lecturing\, What Kind of Man Do You Want To Be? prompts men to reflect and consider opportunities for change in their own lives\, to help build healthier relationships and communities. \nThis campaign is grounded in masculinities research and has been developed with experts from across family violence prevention and the fields of communications\, campaigns and behaviour change\, alongside extensive focus group testing with Victorians. \nJoin us for an exclusive first look at the campaign\, followed by a Q&A with the team behind—and in front of—the camera. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Networking & Collaborating for Risk Assessment
DESCRIPTION:Working together to respond to family violence is essential for all professionals\, no matter what sector we work in. When we want victim-survivors and children to be safe from harm\, and persons using violence to receive support for change\, we need to collaborate\, sharing our professional judgement and expertise with each other to ensure clear identification of family violence\, and to inform risk management and safety plans. \nPillar 2 of the MARAM requires organisations to have a ‘shared approach to identification\, screening\, assessment and management of family violence risk’. This is achieved by using tools consistent with the MARAM evidence-based risk factors as consistency also improves collaboration; services can use the same language and understanding of family violence risk to work together to keep victim survivors safe and perpetrators accountable. (VicGov\, 2023) \nThis training provides you with an important opportunity to build cross-sector relationships\, learn from other professionals and to establish networks across sectors in the Bayside Peninusla Area. These networks will be invaluable in your ongoing work. \nIf you are a professional in the Bayside Peninsula Area who responds to family violence\, then this training is for you. \nRegister today for Collaborative Practice training to explore how to contribute to multi-agency risk assessment and to collaborate for ongoing risk management through respectful and sensitive engagement with victim survivors\, information sharing\, referral\, and secondary consultation.
