SUMMARY:Webinar: Raising Children with Disability – Supporting Fathers | Relationships Australia Victoria
DESCRIPTION:Fathers of children with special needs often face immense emotional and psychological challenges\, yet their caregiving role is frequently overlooked—especially in cultures influenced by traditional patriarchal norms.\nIn Hong Kong\, where open discussions about fatherhood and emotional struggles remain limited\, many fathers experience deep-seated feelings of shame and guilt\, leading to avoidance behaviours or overcompensation in their parenting approach. \nDr Kai Chung Lo\, from the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University\, spearheaded a groundbreaking study—the first of its kind in Hong Kong—exploring the moral emotions of fathers caring for children with special needs. This research sheds light on their hidden struggles\, and provides crucial insights into how these emotions impact both their wellbeing and their children’s development. \nJoin us for this eye-opening webinar\, when Dr Lo will present key findings from his extensive research\, offering a rare glimpse into the psychological and social challenges faced by father caregivers. Discover how deeply rooted emotions like shame and guilt manifest in their parenting behaviours and explore the broader societal factors contributing to these struggles. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:ANROWS Conference 2025 | Centring children and young people to end violence
DESCRIPTION:Join us to listen\, learn and act\, as we gather with a shared purpose:  \nTo centre children and young people at the heart of the work to end domestic\, family and sexual violence.\nToo often\, children and young people are overlooked in conversations about domestic\, family and sexual violence\, dismissed as too young to understand or too resilient to be affected. But this is not the reality. Children are not passive bystanders\, and the impact of violence does not fade with time – it shapes their future. \nBridging the gap between knowledge and action requires a conscious commitment to acknowledge children and young people and to centre them actively in practice. ANROWS is Australia’s trusted voice on domestic\, family and sexual violence. As Australia’s only conference of its kind\, this event uniquely brokers knowledge for policy and practice through a focus on centring the voices of children and young people. \nPolicymakers\, service providers\, practitioners\, researchers and advocates will come together to listen to young voices\, learn from their lived experiences\, and act boldly to integrate their perspectives into policies\, practices and systems. \n Register here

SUMMARY:Embedding Evidence: Voices from practice – Building outcomes\, service data and client focus | Anchor Inc.\, Anglicare Victoria and Uniting VicTas
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging session exploring practical strategies to embed outcomes\, service data\, and client insights into everyday practice. This event is part of OPEN’s new series\, showcasing diverse approaches from organisations across the sector—offering key takeaways for leaders\, program managers\, and practitioners alike. \n  \nNo matter where you are in your evidence and data journey\, this session is for you. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to refine your approach\, you’ll gain practical\, real-world insights that can be applied across different programs and services. These presentations will show that embedding evidence and client voice doesn’t have to be overwhelming—small\, strategic steps can make a big impact. \n  \nThis session will highlight three different approaches to embedding evidence in practice: \n\nFrom Vision to Impact:  Anchor’s Journey in Implementing Evaluation Work – Avi MacMull (Anchor Inc.) will share how their Outcomes & Impact Framework was developed to align with strategic goals and drive a consistent approach to measuring success. Avi will take a deep dive into a project where theory of change was reviewed\, outcome measures were refined\, and practitioner-led tools were developed to systematically collect data without overburdening clients. The presentation will highlight how culture\, infrastructure\, and processes work together to embed evidence-informed practice across an organisation.\nKeeping on with what’s working or correcting the course: the role of outcomes and client voice data during active service-provision – David Giles  and Jonathon Cummins (Anglicare Victoria) will outline Anglicare Victoria’s processes for assessing client outcomes and conducting client voice surveying during ongoing service episodes\, using the example of out-of-home care. These processes are designed to inform decision-making about ongoing service provision; both at an individual client level\, and for continuous improvement purposes at an organisational level.\nEngaging practitioners and clients in understanding impact – Mia Lorenzo (Uniting VicTas) will explore how integrating client and practitioner insights throughout the evaluation process leads to better quality data and improved outcomes. Mia will share lessons from the Family Preservation and Reunification Response (FPRR) evaluation\, where diverse feedback methods—including workshops\, surveys\, and focus groups—were used to build engagement\, improve service delivery\, and drive continuous improvement.\n\nAlongside these presentations\, OPEN will introduce new training\, project support\, and resources to help organisations build their evidence and outcomes capabilities. \n  \nThis session offers a blend of foundational insights for those new to evidence-informed practice and more advanced strategies for those looking to refine their approach. Don’t miss out on practical takeaways from these shared experiences\, highlighting key lessons\, tools\, and challenges in embedding evidence and client voice into service delivery. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Webinar: Centering children when supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families | AIFS
DESCRIPTION:Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are overrepresented in nearly all statutory services including child protection\, out-of-home care and the youth justice system. \nJoin us in the lead up to National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) for this important discussion\, held in partnership with Emerging Minds\, on how to better centre children’s experiences\, concerns and aspirations for their future. \nThe theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is Bridging Now to Next. The theme reflects the connection between past\, present and future and calls on all Australians to step forward together\, to look ahead and continue the push forward\, guided by past lessons. \nThis webinar will highlight the need to challenge the assumption of Western expertise that has dominated Australia’s colonial history and that has been imposed on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children\, families and communities\, and the importance of valuing and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing\, being and doing. \nAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have a right for their voice to be heard in matters that affect them\, and may want to be involved in decisions relating to them. By centering the perspectives and experiences of children\, we can provide a place for children to feel seen\, heard and understood\, and help reinforce their cultural\, social or personal identity. By practicing deep listening we can have more meaningful conversations and build deeper relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families we work with. \n  \nRegister here

SUMMARY:The Walk for Truth | Yoorrook Justice Commission
DESCRIPTION:Yoorrook Justice Commission invites you to be part of the Walk for Truth from Portland to Parliament. \nEveryone is invited to join when Yoorrook Deputy Chair Commissioner Travis Lovett\, Kerrupmara Gunditjmara\, walks from Portland\, where colonisation began\, to Parliament\, where we can transform the future. \nStarting on Sunday 25 May on Gunditjmara Country at Portland\, the Walk will finish at Parliament House on Wednesday 18 June. You can see expected dates of each leg of the walk on the website. \nThis powerful journey aims to bring everyone together to walk toward truth\, celebrate the strength and resistance of Aboriginal people\, and be proud to have the oldest living culture in the world as ours. \nAs Victoria’s first formal truth-telling process\, over the past four years Yoorrook has heard powerful truths from people right across the state\, giving evidence on the impacts of colonisation\, including systemic injustice\, as well as the strength\, resistance and achievements of First Peoples. \nThese truths form the basis of Yoorrook’s final reports\, documenting the past and providing a roadmap to transform the future. \nThe walk will be a powerful way to build shared understanding of these truths\, talking together about our history\, while walking together to transform our future. For First Peoples and for all Victorians. \nRegister here:
