SUMMARY:Addressing Male Sexism & Entitlement in FV Perpetrator Programs | Northside Counselling Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Interactive discussions about sexism and the impact this has on women who work with male colleagues in family violence perpetrator programs. \nThese reflective practice discussions are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in 2023. \nBetween each session\, at least another 4 women will be murdered by a current or former male partner by their use of family violence. Since these figures are not changing from year to year\, the need for practitioners to address gender injustices in our personal lives\, not just our work\, becomes even more necessary. \nIn order for us to invite other men to examine and explore themes such as male privilege\, male entitled belief systems\, male sexism and misogyny- themes at the heart of men’s oppression of women- we must examine them first ourselves and openly discuss how our own entitlements over women’s bodies\, choices and rights get enacted in our relationships with female colleagues\, partners and family members\, as well as women generally and other genders usually targeted by male violence and misogyny. \nBy discussing and exposing male privilege and entitlement\, practitioners can challenge and address the risk reinforcing harmful gender and power-based messages in our daily practices. These conversations can be complex and require ongoing supportive spaces like these for men to discuss gender in a way that is purposeful\, mobilising and informed by feminist and anti-oppressive ideas. \nPractitioners from all sectors are invited to attend and participate actively with purpose. \nThis is NOT a men’s only space. This is not group therapy and people of all genders are encouraged to come along. \nZoom meeting link will be sent via email after registration and just before the event. Please allow for your zoom audio and visual functions to be working during the session. \nThis event is brought to you by Anthony Lekkas from northsidecounsellingsolutions.com

SUMMARY:Research Report Launch: Long COVID and Intimate Partner Violence | Monash University
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Safe and Equal\, Dr Naomi Pfitzner\, Dr Jasmine McGowan and Kate Fitz-Gibbon are thrilled to be launching their research on the intersection between experiences of long COVID and intimate partner violence. \nDespite well-established evidence of the increased risk of intimate partner violence during the first two years of the pandemic\, to date there has been no research globally that examines how victim-survivors’ experiences of long COVID will uniquely impact their safety and support needs. This research\, which has been conducted in partnership with Safe and Equal\, seeks to address this critical gap in current knowledge. \nThe event will open at 9am with informal networking and morning tea from 9am to 9:30am. Formalities will commence at 9:30am. \nClick here to register

SUMMARY:Technology-Facilitated Abuse: Preliminary Findings of a Global Delphi Study | MAEVe
DESCRIPTION:Technology-facilitated abuse (“tech abuse”) in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV) describes an incident or a pattern of incidents in which digital systems are used with the intention to monitor\, control\, coerce\, threaten\, degrade\, and harm a victim/survivor. Tech abuse\, therefore\, intersects closely with other forms of IPV and family and domestic abuse\, as well as stalking. However\, tech abuse is not an “official” concept nor measurement category. To date\, scholars have used different terminology to describe the perpetration of abuse and harassment via digital means. In this presentation\, preliminary findings of an ongoing global Delphi study will be shared in which we examine the “boundary questions” that tech abuse creates and offers a framework to tackle the lack of agreed conceptualisation and terminological specificity. \nClick here to register
