SUMMARY:Putting MARAM into Practice: Techniques for Maintaining Engagement & Difficult Family Violence Conversations | CFECFW
DESCRIPTION:The Centre has developed a series of new MARAM workshops entitled “Putting MARAM into Practice”. The workshops address some of the key challenges practitioners confront when they integrate MARAM into their everyday work. These practice challenges were identified from three types of consultation: \n\nInterviews with MARAM participants\nObservations and recommendations from the team of MARAM trainers\nReview of MARAM post-course evaluations since March 2020\, all of which included the questions: “How will your practice change after this training?” and “What is the main barrier or challenge you identify in using the MARAM Framework in your workplace?”.\n\nLearning Outcomes: \n\nExplore why a victim-survivor may be reluctant to engage in a conversation about family violence\nLearn strategies to enhance victim-survivor engagement\nLearn strategies for gradually building a victim-survivor’s capacity to manage their risk\nLearn engagement techniques with clients at higher risk of disengagement\nConsider how to explore a family violence disclosure in a way that maintains engagement\n\nClick here for more information and to register

SUMMARY:Working with Young People – CARE Schools: An Alternative to Jailing Our Kids | Relationships Australia
DESCRIPTION:The number of young people involved in the juvenile justice system in Australia is on the rise. Although many intervention programs have been designed\, implemented and reviewed\, the problem continues.   \nThe role of education in decreasing recidivism has been shown to be of great importance but\, as with other initiatives\, it does not seem to be a complete solution. \nThrough the lens of school leadership and youth support and development workers\, this presentation will highlight the work of a Western Australian CARE school\, its alternative education approach and the initiatives that are helping keep the young people in its care from involvement with the justice system.  \nClick here to learn more and register

SUMMARY:Addressing Male Sexism & Entitlement in FV Perpetrator Programs | Northside Counselling Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Interactive discussions about sexism and the impact this has on women who work with male colleagues in family violence perpetrator programs. \nThese reflective practice discussions are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in 2023. \nBetween each session\, at least another 4 women will be murdered by a current or former male partner by their use of family violence. Since these figures are not changing from year to year\, the need for practitioners to address gender injustices in our personal lives\, not just our work\, becomes even more necessary. \nIn order for us to invite other men to examine and explore themes such as male privilege\, male entitled belief systems\, male sexism and misogyny- themes at the heart of men’s oppression of women- we must examine them first ourselves and openly discuss how our own entitlements over women’s bodies\, choices and rights get enacted in our relationships with female colleagues\, partners and family members\, as well as women generally and other genders usually targeted by male violence and misogyny. \nBy discussing and exposing male privilege and entitlement\, practitioners can challenge and address the risk reinforcing harmful gender and power-based messages in our daily practices. These conversations can be complex and require ongoing supportive spaces like these for men to discuss gender in a way that is purposeful\, mobilising and informed by feminist and anti-oppressive ideas. \nPractitioners from all sectors are invited to attend and participate actively with purpose. \nThis is NOT a men’s only space. This is not group therapy and people of all genders are encouraged to come along. \nZoom meeting link will be sent via email after registration and just before the event. Please allow for your zoom audio and visual functions to be working during the session. \nThis event is brought to you by Anthony Lekkas from northsidecounsellingsolutions.com

SUMMARY:In Conversation with Ben Mathews | The National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse as they host the first in their In Conversation series with Professor Ben Mathews\, Lead Investigator on the Australian Child Maltreatment Study. \nResults of this ground-breaking study\, released on 3 April 2023\, identify\, for the first time\, how many Australians in the general population have experienced child sexual abuse and other forms of child abuse and neglect. In addition\, it reveals the extent of harm associated with child maltreatment in terms of mental health disorders\, health risk behaviours and health service utilisation. \nThis conversation will discuss the data and insights learned with a particular emphasis on child sexual abuse and explore how these can ultimately inform policies and practice to reduce child sexual abuse and improve responses to it. \nClick here for more information and to register

SUMMARY:Inspiring Men to Engage 'CHANGE' | AASW
DESCRIPTION:The workshop provides an opportunity to learn in a practical and engaging presentation some of the tools David Nugent has implemented for the last 20 years with hundreds of men. \nDavid will demonstrate his successful blueprint of engaging men: inspiring men to look at themselves and take responsibility for what they can change rather than blaming\, making excuses\, or justifying their abusive behaviour. David’s approach does not condemn men; but works to empower them to become better men\, better partners\, better fathers\, and role models in our community. \nThis workshop is for Allied Health professionals\, Counsellors\, Social Workers\, Psychologist\, or anyone working in the space of Domestic/Family Violence. \nFor more information and to register\, click here
