SUMMARY:Addressing Male Sexism & Entitlement in FV Perpetrator Programs | Northside Counselling Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Interactive discussions about sexism and the impact this has on women who work with male colleagues in family violence perpetrator programs. \nThese reflective practice discussions are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in 2023. \nBetween each session\, at least another 4 women will be murdered by a current or former male partner by their use of family violence. Since these figures are not changing from year to year\, the need for practitioners to address gender injustices in our personal lives\, not just our work\, becomes even more necessary. \nIn order for us to invite other men to examine and explore themes such as male privilege\, male entitled belief systems\, male sexism and misogyny- themes at the heart of men’s oppression of women- we must examine them first ourselves and openly discuss how our own entitlements over women’s bodies\, choices and rights get enacted in our relationships with female colleagues\, partners and family members\, as well as women generally and other genders usually targeted by male violence and misogyny. \nBy discussing and exposing male privilege and entitlement\, practitioners can challenge and address the risk reinforcing harmful gender and power-based messages in our daily practices. These conversations can be complex and require ongoing supportive spaces like these for men to discuss gender in a way that is purposeful\, mobilising and informed by feminist and anti-oppressive ideas. \nPractitioners from all sectors are invited to attend and participate actively with purpose. \nThis is NOT a men’s only space. This is not group therapy and people of all genders are encouraged to come along. \nZoom meeting link will be sent via email after registration and just before the event. Please allow for your zoom audio and visual functions to be working during the session. \nThis event is brought to you by Anthony Lekkas from northsidecounsellingsolutions.com

SUMMARY:World Day of Social Justice
DESCRIPTION:In November 2007\, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice.  Member states were invited to devote this special day to the promotion of concrete national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth session of the General Assembly\, entitled “World Summit for Social Development and beyond: achieving social development for all in a globalising world”. \n\nAs recognised by the World Summit\, social development aims at social justice\, solidarity\, harmony and equality within and among countries and social justice\, equality and equity constitute the fundamental values of all societies. To achieve “a society for all” governments made a commitment to the creation of a framework for action to promote social justice at national\, regional and international levels. They also pledged to promote the equitable distribution of income and greater access to resources through equity and equality and opportunity for all. The governments recognized as well that economic growth should promote equity and social justice and that “a society for all” must be based on social justice and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms. \nRead more here

SUMMARY:'How We Thrive' Resource Launch Webinar | Safe+Equal
DESCRIPTION:Join Safe and Equal for the launch of the ‘How We Thrive’ video series\, guiding managers and organisational leaders to support primary prevention practitioners to thrive in diverse settings. \nVictorian primary prevention practitioners work across a number of settings including women’s health\, family violence\, education\, local government\, sports and community services. While some work is undertaken by practitioners in specialised family violence and prevention organisations\, others may be the only team members within their organisations focusing on prevention.\nPractitioners working in this way can feel isolated and might need particular support from their managers and organisational leaders to promote well-being and ensure their projects are connected to their organisation’s broader mission.\nThe ’How We Thrive’ resource suite contains four videos\, each with a supporting tip sheet\, that help managers and organisational leaders understand what prevention practitioners need to feel supported and valued in their organisations. ‘How We Thrive’ also helps prevention practitioners to advocate for their projects and well-being within their organisations.\nThis launch event will include a panel of experts from four non-specialised prevention settings\, who will share their perspectives on how to best support practitioners as a leader\, as well as what helped them to thrive as practitioners in the early days of their careers. There will also be an introductory presentation about the resources\, and how work across a range of settings is vital for the future development of effective primary prevention. \n\nDate: Wednesday 22 February 2023\nTime: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm (AEDT time)\nLocation: Online via Zoom\nCost: Free
