SUMMARY:Webinar: Leading for cultural connection
DESCRIPTION:What children in out-of-home care can teach us about belonging\nBelonging is not accidental. It is shaped by everyday leadership choices — the policies we set\, the rosters we design\, the routines we prioritise\, and the relationships we support. \nFor many children in out-of-home care\, cultural disconnection can be experienced as isolation\, invisibility and loss. Listening to children’s own words helps us better understand what belonging looks like in practice — and how leaders can create environments where connection and identity are actively supported. \nThis practical webinar brings together research\, lived experience insights and service-based examples to help leaders translate intention into action. \nIn this webinar\, you will: \n\nunderstand how cultural disconnection can show up for children and young people\nexplore a simple constraints and enablers framework to use with your team\nidentify practical leadership actions across policy\, staffing\, routines\, relationships and partnerships\nreceive a ready-to-use 7-day action plan template to support immediate next steps\n\nPresented by Dr Kylie Day\nDr Kylie Day is a Lecturer at the Gnibi College of Indigenous Australian Peoples\, Southern Cross University\, and an affiliate of the Centre for Children and Young People. Her work focuses on Indigenous education\, cultural knowledge\, wellbeing\, and strengthening connection for children and young people. Kylie brings extensive experience across education\, community engagement and leadership\, including roles in secondary teaching\, Indigenous student support\, and higher education. She has contributed to initiatives that support culturally informed practice and equitable outcomes for children and young people\, and currently serves on the CAPA Board and the NATSIPA Board. \nHer teaching and research draw on Indigenous knowledge\, worldviews and caring for Country\, with a strong commitment to practical approaches that strengthen belonging and inclusion in education and care settings.
