SUMMARY:High-Risk Indicators of Family Violence: A new resource for the AOD sector | VAADA
DESCRIPTION:An in-person morning tea and Community of Practice event to help VAADA launch a new family violence resource.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nKnown across the family violence sector as the “Red Flags” of family violence\, these are the fourteen evidence based high-risk indicators that clinicians are trained to look out for when meeting with their clients. Why? Because if victim survivors are experiencing any of these factors\, they are at an increased risk of being killed or almost killed. \nVAADA has therefore worked with the AOD sector and the Specialist Family Violence Advisers to redesign the “Red Flags\,” both aligning it to MARAM and situating the high-risk indicators to an AOD context. The two-page resource also holds information for secondary consultations and safety planning\, allowing clinicians to immediately think about risk management if their client is identified as high-risk. \nWe warmly invite you to an in-person morning tea and Community of Practice event on Thursday 2 June\, 10am-12pm\, at the Catholic Leadership Centre (576 Victoria Parade\, East Melbourne VIC 3002)\, to help us launch this new resource. \nJacky Tucker\, from Safe+Equal\, will be speaking to the high-risk indicator evidence base\, alongside VAADA’s Sheridon Byrne\, who will give practice advice and explain how the resource came into development. \nPlace are limited\, so please RSVP as soon as possible and let us know your dietary requirements via the registration form. We will have print-outs of the resource in high-quality\, poster paper available for you to take home/to your offices. \nThursday 2 June \nCatholic Leadership Centre \n\n10am – Morning tea\n10:30am – 12pm – Presentations

SUMMARY:Listen up! Hear from young people about their understandings of domestic violence | ANROWS
DESCRIPTION:The 2017 National Community Attitudes towards Violence Against Women Survey (NCAS) found that although young people have a good overall understanding of domestic violence\, in particular its physical forms\, there were also some “areas of concern” within young people’s understandings. \nTo better understand these findings\, the forthcoming ANROWS qualitative research study “It depends on what the definition of domestic violence is”: How young people conceptualise domestic violence and abuse explores how young people define and make sense of domestic violence in their own terms. \nFacilitated by Body Safety Australia and featuring a panel of young people passionate about preventing violence against women\, this webinar will unpack the report’s findings and their implications for policy and practice. \nBy centring young people’s voices and knowledge of domestic violence\, this research and webinar will be of value for policymakers and practitioners developing relevant\, consistent and effective education\, policy and primary prevention initiatives aimed at preventing and reducing violence against women. \nFacilitators:  \nDeanne Carson\, CEO and Founder of Body Safety Australia and Lauren French\, Lead Educator\, Body Safety Australia \n  \nPresenters: \n\nDr Erin Carlisle\, Senior Research Officer\, ANROWS\nAlesha Saeed\, R4Respect Youth Ambassador\nZac Tuialli\, Men4Respect Youth Ambassador\nJean Lewis\, Youth advocate\, NSW\nMalika\, Queensland Family and Child Commission Youth Advisory Council\n\nThere will be a live Q&A at the end of the session. \nThe webinar is open to anyone and free to attend. Live captioning will be available for the webinar and a recording of the webinar will be available on the ANROWS website. \nEnquiries: rachel.pow@anrows.org.au

SUMMARY:Challenging Male Entitlement in Men's Behaviour Change Programs | Northside Counselling Solutions
DESCRIPTION:These reflective discussions are held on the last Wednesday of each month in 2022. \nBetween each session\, at least another 4 women will be murdered by a current or former male partner by their use of family violence. Since these figures are not changing from year to year\, the need for practitioners to address gender injustices in our personal lives\, not just our work\, becomes even more necessary. \nIn order for us to invite other men to examine and explore themes such as male privilege\, male entitled belief systems\, male sexism and misogyny- themes at the heart of men’s oppression of women- we must examine them first ourselves and openly discuss how our own entitlements over women’s bodies\, choices and rights get enacted in our relationships with female colleagues\, partners and family members\, as well as women generally and other genders usually targeted by male violence and misogyny. \nBy discussing and exposing male privilege and entitlement\, practitioners can challenge and address reinforcing harmful gender and power-based messages in our daily practices. These conversations can be complex and require ongoing supportive spaces like these for men to discuss gender in a way that is purposeful\, mobilising and informed by feminist and anti-oppressive ideas. Practitioners from all sectors are invited to attend and participate with purpose. \nThis is NOT a men’s only space. This is not group therapy and people of all genders are encouraged to come along. \nZoom meeting link will be sent via email after registration and one day before the event. Please allow for your zoom audio and visual functions to be working during the session. \nThis event is brought to you by Anthony Lekkas from northsidecounsellingsolutions.com

SUMMARY:Intersecting systems and the needs of families: Family law\, child protection and domestic violence | CFCA
DESCRIPTION:Problems arising from Australia’s fragmented system for responding to families affected by family violence and child abuse have attracted significant focus in the last decade. Split responsibilities between the states and territories having responsibility for child protection and family violence and the Commonwealth holding responsibility for family law increase these difficulties. The well-recognised burden of navigating these different systems is shouldered by vulnerable families. \nThis webinar reunites the panellists from AIFS Conference 2022 event ‘Intersecting systems and the needs of families: Family law\, child protection and domestic violence’. The panellists will discuss this topic with a focus on implications for practitioners working in areas related to family and domestic violence\, family law and child protection. \nThe recorded panel event includes discussion on: \n\nIssues and developments in relation to the intersecting systems that address the needs of children affected by family violence and child abuse – namely child protection\, family violence and family law\nPolicy developments in the national child protection and family violence frameworks\, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia’s Lighthouse Project and child protection responses to children exposed to family and domestic violence\nPractice insights for practitioners supporting children and families to navigate these intersecting systems.\n\nPresenters: Daryl Higgins\, Jess Hill\, Anne Hollonds and Lisa O’Neill. Facilitated by Rae Kaspiew.\n\nWednesday\, 29 June 2022 1:00 pm–2:00 pm AEST.
