SUMMARY:Supporting culturally and linguistically diverse children and families who experience racism | AIFS
DESCRIPTION:Children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of racism in its various forms. Racism hurts children and their families in real and fundamental ways\, affecting not only their mental and physical health\, but also their relationships and ability to grow. Practitioners who work with children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds must understand how racism operates. Understanding that experiences of racism can be systemic\, and experienced by families in different ways\, can help practitioners navigate conversations about racism and support CALD children’s mental health and wellbeing. \nThis webinar will: \n\nincrease awareness of the effects of racism on child and family mental and emotional health and relationships\nidentify the support that parents from a CALD background need to support their child’s mental health and wellbeing\nprovide guidance on how practitioners can discuss and address racism.\n\nThis webinar is recommended for practitioners who may engage and work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) children\, families and communities. \nClick here for more information and to register

SUMMARY:Empowering Safety: Navigating Support for Visa Holders Facing Family Violence
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever found yourself unsure about how and where to access family violence services in Victoria? \nJoin us on Monday\, June 19th\, as Gals in Australia\, Latin Stories Australia\, and the Centre for Multicultural Youth come together to host an enlightening workshop tailored specifically for the Latin community. \nThis workshop aims to provide clear and comprehensive information about the available services and pathways designed to support visa holders dealing with family violence\, particularly within intimate relationships. Different organisations and service provider will be present to offer guidance\, teach us how to create safety plans\, and address any questions we may have. \nThrough our observations\, we have noticed a significant number of family violence cases reported in Facebook groups by visa holders\, predominantly international students and individuals with partner visas. This event presents a unique opportunity to directly connect with service providers and explore proactive ways to prevent family violence within our communities. \nThis session is FREE and aims to provide valuable insights. We extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in attending. \nDate: Monday\, June 19th\, 2023 \nTime: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm \nLocation: Multicultural Hub\, Drill Hall \nAddress: 506 Elizabeth St\, Melbourne VIC 3000 \nPlease note that the event has a maximum capacity of 100 participants.
