SUMMARY:YPVITH – Neurodiverse Affirming Practice With Young People and Their Families | The Centre
DESCRIPTION:YPVITH\, Neurodiverse Affirming Practice With Young People and Their Families\, is a three-hour interactive training for professionals from all disciplines and service sectors working with neurodivergent young people using violence in the home. Building on the Centre’s Four Pillars of Practice Model for YPVITH\, the training builds on practitioners’ understanding of ADHD and autism by exploring different presentations and dispelling common myths. The training examines the links between nervous system dysregulation and aggressive behaviours. Participants will gain a practical understanding of how to apply a therapeutic approach\, as well as some suggested practice modifications and strategies to enhance engagement and improve the outcomes for the young person using violence and support their families and carers to better understand neurodiversity. \nThe training is delivered by Dr Amanda Mullin\, Doctor of Clinical Psychology and Director\, Mindworx Psychology\, and Karalyn Davies\, Senior Project Officer\, Adolescent Violence in the Home\, the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare. \nNote: this training is not designed for parents or carers or for practitioners supporting young people using violence in contexts outside of the home\, such as community or peer violence or intimate partner violence. \nCost excludes GST. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now to access our LMS login page. DESCRIPTION:This workshop is the first in a series of two. \nCreating Connection Series: Young People—Understanding Young People With Autism introduces a range of innovative techniques for better understanding\, communicating with\, and meeting the needs of young people with autism. \nThe workshop approaches the topic of autism through the lens of information—how do neurotypical people and neurodivergent people experience the world around them? It guides participants to closely examine their own sensory experience of the world—what is ‘normal’ for us\, and what do we take for granted about our own senses? \nUsing the categories in the formal definition of autism as a starting point\, we explore how each common characteristic of autism – from social awkwardness to sensory sensitivities – can be understood as different ways of processing information. DESCRIPTION:This session focuses on HOW to share information using the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS)\, including the purpose and importance of information sharing when responding to family violence and what this looks like in practice. \nWith these sessions the BPIFVP aims to bring relevant information sharing and MARAM theory\, frameworks and concepts together and contextualise this for practice.
