SUMMARY:Invitation to Participate: Family Violence Best Practice Crisis Response Research | Safe Steps
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to take part in an independent research project led by Safe Steps on family violence best practice crisis response\, as practitioners who provide crisis support to family violence victim survivors. The research project is one of the 13 projects funded under the Family Violence Research Grants Program by Family Safety Victoria. \nThis research aims to better understand the existing practice framework dealing with family violence emergencies and to identify areas for improvement. Safe Steps is particularly interested in mapping where this does and does not align with the experience of those who are intended to benefit from existing policies and practices. Each focus group will be limited to 6 or less practitioners. The focus group will run for one to one and a half hour and take place online via Zoom. \nExpress your interest here \nAccess Participation Information Sheet here \nSafe Steps also want to work with a small group of victim-survivors who are experts by experience to help identify barriers and enablers when accessing crisis support.  Their participation will involve attending an online focus group (around 60-90 minutes). \nThose interested can express interest here \nAccess Victim-Survivor Participant Information Sheet here

SUMMARY:International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
DESCRIPTION:The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day the police in Sharpeville\, South Africa\, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid “pass laws” in 1960. \nIn 1979\, the General Assembly adopted a programme of activities to be undertaken during the second half of the Decade for Action to Combat Racism and Racial Discrimination. On that occasion\, the General Assembly decided that a week of solidarity with the peoples struggling against racism and racial discrimination\, beginning on 21 March\, would be organised annually in all States. \nSince then\, the apartheid system in South Africa has been dismantled. Racist laws and practices have been abolished in many countries\, and we have built an international framework for fighting racism\, guided by the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The Convention is now nearing universal ratification\, yet still\, in all regions\, too many individuals\, communities and societies suffer from the injustice and stigma that racism brings. \nRead more here
