SUMMARY:Invitation to Participate: Family Violence Best Practice Crisis Response Research | Safe Steps
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to take part in an independent research project led by Safe Steps on family violence best practice crisis response\, as practitioners who provide crisis support to family violence victim survivors. The research project is one of the 13 projects funded under the Family Violence Research Grants Program by Family Safety Victoria. \nThis research aims to better understand the existing practice framework dealing with family violence emergencies and to identify areas for improvement. Safe Steps is particularly interested in mapping where this does and does not align with the experience of those who are intended to benefit from existing policies and practices. Each focus group will be limited to 6 or less practitioners. The focus group will run for one to one and a half hour and take place online via Zoom. \nExpress your interest here \nAccess Participation Information Sheet here \nSafe Steps also want to work with a small group of victim-survivors who are experts by experience to help identify barriers and enablers when accessing crisis support.  Their participation will involve attending an online focus group (around 60-90 minutes). \nThose interested can express interest here \nAccess Victim-Survivor Participant Information Sheet here

SUMMARY:Significance of Family Violence in Property Settlement | Family Law Education Network of Australia
DESCRIPTION:The law has struggled to keep up with society’s changed attitudes towards and perceptions of family violence and its impact on families. \nThe criminal system is largely State based and there is a disconnect between Commonwealth and State laws and their application and enforcement. \nThe civil system permits of property settlement proceedings\, usually upon the breakdown of a relationship\, under the Commonwealth Family Law Act. What role does family violence play in such proceedings\, and what are the options for an aggrieved party? This presentation will consider ‘Kennon’ claims\, as well as the jurisdiction of the State courts to hear claims based on intentional torts such as assault\, trespass to person\, battery and false imprisonment. \nClick here for more information \nClick here to join event
