SUMMARY:National Reconciliation Week: 27 May - 3 June
DESCRIPTION:The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2022 theme\, ‘Be Brave. Make Change’ is a challenge to all Australians – individuals\, families\, communities\, organisation and government – to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians. Last year Reconciliation Australia encouraged all Australians to take action; not just in National Reconciliation Week but ever week of the year. We saw unprecedented response to our suggested actions for every day and for braver action.  See here for a list of NRW events on in 2022. \nThis year we are asking everyone to make change beginning with actions in their daily lives – where they live\, work\, play and socialise. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australian to learn about our shared histories\, cultures and achievement as well as to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia \nThe dates for NRW are the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum\, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. \n\n27 May 1967 On this day\, Australia’s most successful referendum saw more than 90% of Australian’s vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the census.\n3 June 1992 On this day\, the Australian High Court delivered Mabo decision\, the culmination of Eddie Koiko Mabo’s challenge to the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torries Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.

SUMMARY:High-Risk Indicators of Family Violence: A new resource for the AOD sector | VAADA
DESCRIPTION:An in-person morning tea and Community of Practice event to help VAADA launch a new family violence resource.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nKnown across the family violence sector as the “Red Flags” of family violence\, these are the fourteen evidence based high-risk indicators that clinicians are trained to look out for when meeting with their clients. Why? Because if victim survivors are experiencing any of these factors\, they are at an increased risk of being killed or almost killed. \nVAADA has therefore worked with the AOD sector and the Specialist Family Violence Advisers to redesign the “Red Flags\,” both aligning it to MARAM and situating the high-risk indicators to an AOD context. The two-page resource also holds information for secondary consultations and safety planning\, allowing clinicians to immediately think about risk management if their client is identified as high-risk. \nWe warmly invite you to an in-person morning tea and Community of Practice event on Thursday 2 June\, 10am-12pm\, at the Catholic Leadership Centre (576 Victoria Parade\, East Melbourne VIC 3002)\, to help us launch this new resource. \nJacky Tucker\, from Safe+Equal\, will be speaking to the high-risk indicator evidence base\, alongside VAADA’s Sheridon Byrne\, who will give practice advice and explain how the resource came into development. \nPlace are limited\, so please RSVP as soon as possible and let us know your dietary requirements via the registration form. We will have print-outs of the resource in high-quality\, poster paper available for you to take home/to your offices. \nThursday 2 June \nCatholic Leadership Centre \n\n10am – Morning tea\n10:30am – 12pm – Presentations
