DESCRIPTION:Domestic and Family Violence Awareness and Prevention Month is an annual event held each May to raise community awareness of the social and personal impacts of domestic and family violence and the support available to those affected. The key aims of the month are to: \n\nraise community awareness of domestic and family violence and its impacts;\npromote a clear message of no tolerance of domestic and family violence in Queensland communities;\nensure those who are experiencing domestic and family violence know how to access help and support;\nencourage people who use abuse and/or violence to take responsibility for their abusive behaviour and seek support to change.\n\n(see Domestic Violence Prevention Centre) \nFamily Safety Victoria encourages you to show your support for Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Month by participating in relevant events\, campaigns and following the conversation on social media using the hashtags #DFVAM\, #EndDFV and #notnownotevertogether. \nOther resources:  HIF

DESCRIPTION:Level: Foundational\nDuration: One day\nWhen: Tuesday 24 May 9:30am- 4:30pm (Broadmeadows)\nTuesday 21 June 9:30am- 4:30pm (Dandenong) \nAudience:  This training is aimed at professionals who are not family violence (FV) specialists but may be working in community\, health or education environments\, and who engage with women experiencing FV.\nNote: Due to high demand\, we can only accept a maximum of three staff per organisation at a training session and two students. Registration is essential. \nLearning outcomes\nThis training enables participants to understand FV within the context of working with migrant and refugee communities and to respond to disclosures and make referrals.\nOn completion of the training participants will have developed: \n\nThe ability to reflect on one’s own professional practice using cultural responsive principles\, cultural humility and an intersectional approach.\nAn understanding of how cultural expectations\, systemic barriers and discrimination may impact migrant and refugee women’s capacity to seek and sustain family violence service support.\nAn understanding of family violence\, indicators and risk factors during initial client assessment/screening with migrant and refugee women.\n\nAbility to apply culturally responsive principles and practices to disclosure\, safety planning and referral processes.
