The Disability Royal Commission (‘Royal Commission’) has contracted Taylor Fry and the Centre for International Economics (CIE) to cost violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation (‘maltreatment’) experienced by people with disability in Australia.

This report documents the project’s findings in line with our agreed scope of work.

Specifically this includes:

  • Our estimates of:
    • The annual economic cost of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability in Australia
    • The lifetime economic cost of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability in Australia
  • Disaggregation of our results by type of cost and population group
  • A profile of government funding that contributes to outcomes for people with disability
  • Identification of areas where current data and research could be strengthened
